A man drove up
in front of the house in a gray Mercedes. The door was open quickly and the man
ran out, but he did not find what he looked for so he went back to the car and
left. Suddenly I heard a scream and ran towards the screaming. On the ground, I
saw a man lying. His shoes were taken off and put neat and tidy beside him. The
man’s body suddenly did a jerk as I bent down. His last grasp for life
supposedly. His chest looked like he had been shot. I was unsure what to do but
contacted the police directly. Consequently it was difficult remain focused.

Underneath your clothes

Here is the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwBwKcQ1k84&ob=av3e

You're a song
Written by the hands of god
Don't get me wrong cause
This might sound to you a bit odd
But you own the place
Where all my thoughts go hiding
And right under your clothes
Is where I find them

Underneath Your Clothes
There's an endless story
There's the man I chose
There's my territory
And all the things I deserve
For being such a good girl honey

Because of you
I forgot the smart ways to lie
Because of you
I'm running out of reasons to cry
When the friends are gone
When the party's over
We will still belong to each other

Underneath Your Clothes
There's an endless story
There's the man I chose
There's my territory
And all the things I deserve
For being such a good girl honey

I love you more than all that's on the planet
Movin' talkin' walkin' breathing
You know it's true
Oh baby it's so funny
You almost don't believe it
As every voice is hanging from the silence
Lamps are hanging from the ceiling
Like a lady tied to her manners
I'm tied up to this feeling

Underneath Your Clothes
There's an endless story
There's the man I chose
There's my territory
And all the things I deserve
For being such a good girl honey”

Aborigines

Exercises

Questions p.133
1. It’s very important because it’s a way to keep their culture so everyone of the Wadeye community feels united.

2. The difference between the white suburbs and the people of the Northern territory is big. The people in the white suburbs live a good wealthy life while the people of the Northern territory live very poor. They are too many people in one house and many children don’t go to school and a lot are unemployed. The people in the Wadeye community also have cultural differences.

3. Because they live too many people in one house and they have no medical care.

A p.134
Wadeye has a population of 2 700, comprising 24 clans and seven tribes. The ethnic mix is a reminder of the thirties when missionaries persuaded indigenous groups to live together. Visitors arrived by air. The flight is over a wild and exceptionally beautiful country. On arrival, they encounter a settlement resembles a shantytown. Unquestionably, there is high unemployment. In addition, residents suffer overcrowding and poor hygiene. Through lack of minimally nutritional food, some children are visibly malnourished. Considering the inadequate health care center, it is little wonder that doctors and nurses can do very little to help. It’s clear that this entire situation is the result of decades of neglect and hence unsurprising that pressure groups are urging politicians to improve living conditions for Australia’s native population.

Flowers for Algernon

1. Compare the two female characters; Alice and Fay
The two female characters Alice and Fay are very different both depending on their appearances and personalities. Alice has brown hair and soft pigeon eyes and Fay has that typical blond hair and blue eyes. Fay is unlike Alice very open about everything and does what she wants. Alice is a bit shy and isn’t that spontaneous as Fay and she always thinks twice before making any decisions. Alice works at the center for retarded adults while Fay is an unemployed artist. Charlie has something in comment with both of the females but in a diverse way. The relationship between Fay and Charlie is not more than intimacy, they are like friends with benefits and because of that and also Fay’s spontaneity Charlie seems less nervous to be around her than Alice. With Alice Charlie is a whole different person, he is nervous and weird around her, just the way you act when you have a crush on someone. Between these two it’s real love although he’s technically closer to Fay than Alice at the moment.

2. Comment on the fact that Charlie seems to be in favour of polygamy
Although Charlie has become smarter and developed mentally he’s not almost there yet. The problem is that he doesn’t see the wrong thing about dating two women at the same time. He doesn’t want the two females to know what’s going on and that’s why he doesn’t want them to meet each other. He thinks that it’s okay dating both Alice and Fay at the same time and that makes him positive to polygamy.
